We’re a Christmas card recycling donation station!

shutterstock_232626514

As the last of the mince pies are digested and the Christmas clean up commences, we’re helping local people put their old Christmas cards to good use with a recycling station at our restaurants throughout the month of January.

With the special donation stations, you can tidy up and do good in the process by turning your festive waste into woodland. We’re supporting the M&S Christmas card recycling scheme with the Woodland Trust and hoping to make it easier for our customers to donate with the local collection points.

We’re encouraging our customers  to take their cards to the restaurant or send them along with friends or relatives. This simple act will help create habitat for wildlife.

All donated cards will be taken by the restaurant to a local M&S where money generated through the recycling scheme will fund the planting of new trees throughout the UK. One tree will be planted for every 1,000 Christmas cards handed in, so every card counts. Since 2012 more than 32 million cards have been collected and 32,000 trees have been planted.

Drop your cards off at any Pesto by the 28th of January and help the Woodland Trust keep our countryside beautiful and wildlife-rich into the future.

We’re a donation station!

This year many of our restaurants will be supporting Christmas appeals by becoming gift donation stations for needy children this festive season.

Pesto at the Dibbinsdale Inn, Bromborough, and Pesto Widnes will be supporting Radio City’s campaign.

The radio station’s appeal hopes to help give thousands of local children across Merseyside, Cheshire and the Wirral a happy and memorable Christmas by asking ‘secret santas’ from across the region to donate a gift to a child in need at a local drop off point like Pesto.

Pesto at the Dicconson Arms, Appley Bridge, will be a donation station for Rock FM. This is the second year that Pesto has been a donation station for Mission Christmas which last year saw the overall appeal raise over £654,000 in gifts and cash supporting over 12,500 local children.

Pesto Cabbage Hall, near Tarporley, and Pesto at the Trafford Centre are both acting as a donation points for  the Lalley Toy Appeal. The Toy Appeal receives requests for support every year from schools, adoption centres, social workers and more. Each child the appeal helps will receive a bundle of around eight presents including a main present, books and board game, meaning the charity needs to receive over 15,000 donations to achieve their goal.

New and unwrapped gifts are needed for children and young people aged from 0-18 years old – with main presents for children aged 8-11 years old and older teens particularly wanted. Books, board games, play items, teddy bears, arts and crafts gifts, selection boxes and teddies are all welcome donations as well as age appropriate main presents or toys.

Pesto at the Sutton Coldfield is also looking for donations of toys or gifts that can be given to child patients at Good Hope Hospital, in particular the Child Assessment Unit and Children’s A and E department, festive period.

If you would like to help out and donate an item please feel free to drop off your gift (please note it must be new and unwrapped) at any of the restaurants mentioned above anytime throughout the week when the restaurant is open.

Thank you for your support.

Pesto dishes up fork-finding dilemma!

pasta-puzzle

Here at Pesto we’re giving people food for thought with a tasty visual puzzle.

We’ve created a baffling brainteaser asking eagle-eyed customers to see if they can spot where a solitary fork is hiding amongst a mind-bending maze of pasta shapes.

The design is made even more difficult as it features a variety of pasta types from penne to conchiglie – all in a range of sizes and colours.

Our ‘cutlery conundrum’, which was created by our Graphic Designer Mimi Jones, is the latest in a long line of ‘Where’s Wally’ style visual puzzles that have been proving popular on the internet this year.

Mimi comments: “We wanted to create a fun, interactive puzzle that left people scratching their heads and there was definitely only one theme for us to do – especially as National Pasta Day is on October 17th!

“We’re looking forward to seeing how many people go carb-crazy and manage to spot the fork in the pile of pasta.”

This puzzle has an added twist to it as if you can find the fork amongst the fusilli and farfalle and bring in a copy of the completed puzzle to your local Pesto restaurant by October 31st, you will be able to enter a prize draw to win a meal for two people at the restaurant.

We’re celebrating our first birthday at the White Horse!

Here at Pesto at the White Horse in Desford we’re celebrating reaching our landmark first birthday after an exciting twelve months of trading.

Pesto at the White Horse opened last year following a £550,000 joint investment from Pesto Restaurants and Marston’s which saw the well-known pub undergo an extensive refurbishment.

To mark the occasion, we invited representatives from local charity the Harley Staples Cancer Trust to the restaurant to cut the birthday cake with us and offered our customers cake in return for donations to the charity.

General manager Jo Timms comments: “It’s been an incredible year and the support we’ve received has been truly over-whelming, especially as we’ve now achieved over two hundred 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor to date – a huge accomplishment for our opening year.”

As part of our birthday celebrations, you can also enter a fundraising raffle between now and the 14th October in aid of the Harley Staples Cancer Trust. Prizes include a family meal at the restaurant, a family ticket to Tropical Birdland, cinema tickets and more.

The Harley Staples Cancer Trust is a charity created in memory of 8 year old Harley who lost his battle with a rare leukaemia B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia Burkitt type in 2009 – just nine months after he was diagnosed. The charity has been created to help support families with children or young people with cancer, and will open a space for affected families to go on holiday called ‘Harley’s House’ very soon.

At Pesto we’re asking for people to raid their bookshelves and donate children and family friendly books this summer as we prepare to launch our charitable book exchange on Roald Dahl Day.

September is Roald Dahl’s birth month, and each year celebrations are held centring around his birthday on 13th September. This year’s Roald Dahl Day is sure to be extra special as it is the centenary since the renowned author’s birth.

Laura Shannon of Pesto launches the family book exchange to launch on Roald Dahl day

Here at Pesto we’re launching a family book exchange box at all of our restaurants from mid-September where your little ones will be able to take a book from the selection in return for a donation, which will be given to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

Pesto at the Axe & Compass General Manager David Joesbury comments: “Roald Dahl’s fantastic creations like Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have transformed countless children into devoted readers and this seemed a great opportunity to help encourage more children to get into reading.

“We want to give pre-loved hardbacks and paperbacks a new life so hope we can get support with donations of books to help us launch this book exchange.”

To get involved just drop off any family friendly or children’s books you would like to donate – either new or used in good condition – at any Pesto during opening hours. The book exchange will open from the 13th September.

IMG_0739

If you’re hooked onto the viral game everyone is talking about, we’re giving you a chance to win whilst you hunt with our Pokemon Go competition.

Any game players visiting one of our restaurants will get the chance to win a meal for two if they take a photo or screen grab of them catching a pokemon character whilst dining at the restaurant.

Whether you snap a ‘Squirtle’ or take a picture of a ‘Pidgey’ at Pesto – every picture you take and send in of a pokemon at Pesto, via our facebook or twitter page or by email to enquiries@pestorestaurants.co.uk, will count as an entry into the prize draw. You can also add the hashtag #pokemonatpesto when you send them to us! Just remember the competition closing date is 28th August.

If you manage to get a Pesto menu or sign in the background you’ll also get a bonus entry – our restaurants even have some chargers for you to use to recharge your mobile battery whilst dining with us.

General Manager at Pesto at the Dicconson Arms Natelle Scott comments: “We’ve already had customers (and staff) catching pikachus next to pizzas and charmanders on the chairs so thought this hunt would be great fun to give any Pokemon Go players a tasty bonus for playing.”

————-

As Pesto at Cabbage Hall, Pesto Sutton Coldfield, Pesto at the Dicconson Arms and Pesto at the Axe & Compass are also Pokestops, to help launch the ‘Pokemon at Pesto’ hunt, these restaurants will set off a lure at 6pm on Thursday 4th August to encourage more wild and rare pokemon to visit these restaurants!

————-

The popular game has had 5 million UK downloads already and is still proving popular amongst people of all ages. If you’re a Pokemon Go player and want to enter, just send your picture of a pokemon at a Pesto restaurant to us via social media or the email above by the closing date of 28th August 2016.

*Terms and Conditions: The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 or under. One prize to be won of a meal for two people up to the value of £40 on food only plus a bottle of house wine from entries via facebook, twitter and facebook. If the winner is aged under 18, the winner must be that person’s parent or legal guardian. Only pictures of pokemon being caught at a Pesto restaurant will be considered valid entries and each different picture will count as one entry into the prize draw (so entrants can have multiple entries). Pictures that also include a Pesto menu or sign at the restaurant will also have a ‘bonus entry’ into the draw. Prize to be drawn in early September from all valid entries and contacted through their method of entry. The winner may be required to take part in promotional activity related to the Prize Draw and the winner shall participate in such activity on our reasonable request.
