Pesto Restaurants Joins ‘One Less Straw’ Pledge

One Less Straw pledge

Pesto Restaurants has stopped automatically putting plastic straws in drinks, to help put an end to the ‘wasteful’ practice.

The restaurant will only serve straws upon request in a bid to help reduce the number of plastic straws entering landfill or making their way into the world’s oceans each year.

The announcement comes as a wider campaign known as One Less Straw gathers pace. It aims to reduce the use of plastic straws which are thought to take up to 500 years to decompose.

Owner, Sara Gatt, said: ‘I’m passionate about the environment and I am hopeful, that by ceasing to automatically offer plastic straws, we can do our small part in helping to future-proof our oceans and environment. It’s a simple gesture that could make a huge difference, and I hope that fellow restaurants will follow in our footsteps.”

The Plastic Pollution Coalition which backs the campaign says more than 500 million single-use plastic straws are used each day in the US alone.

Pesto Owners Tie The Knot!

Pesto Restaurant owners, Neil Gatt and Sara Edwards, have taken the plunge and tied the knot on an island in the Bahamas, which is famed for its white sandy beaches and wild pigs.

The couple made their vows on the beautiful Abaco Islands in the Bahamas, surrounded by close friends and family members.

Neil and Sara met in Manchester, some 18 years ago. Since that moment they have been inseparable in business and in pleasure. Their latest passion outside of Pesto is sailing and taking in the sights of the world together.

Several months before the wedding, in true romantic style, Neil embarked on a hero’s quest to find the perfect location for the wedding. When he sailed into the islands, he knew immediately that Sara would love the setting.

The couple enjoyed their honeymoon aboard their sailing boat around the Bahamas.

Pesto Italian Restaurants is the creation of Neil and Sara, the company’s owners. With a passion for food, they have been involved in retail hospitality since their teens, building their careers around the casual dining sector, delivering great food and hospitality at sensible prices.

Neil and Sara opened their first Pesto restaurant in 2006 in Manchester. A year after this they opened their second Pesto in The Great Hall, Trafford Centre. Pesto now has ten restaurants nationwide at a variety of locations with more in the pipeline for early this year.
