If you’ve visited Pesto at The Davenport Arms, in Macclesfield, recently, you might have noticed that one of the waitresses has an extra spring in her step. That’s because Helena Lomas, aged 18 from Buglawton, is a trained dancer who is working at the restaurant to fund her dreams of a life of performing in London West End Musicals.
Helena has been dancing since the tender age of three, and she was often to be found practising pirouettes in her bedroom. She later went on to train in ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance.
She is taking a gap year and working at Pesto Restaurants to help fund her dream and the cost of living in London when she is taking part in auditions.
Helena has been part of Youth Dance England where she travelled to Royal Ballet School and the Royal Opera House. She has been part of the BBC Proms with the ‘Halle Choir’ in 2015 and is soon to be in Cats at the Regent Theatre in Hanley.
Helena said: ‘I love working at The Davenport Arms and it’s helping me to get closer to my ultimate dream to dance. I’ve always wanted to be a dancer, and my family has got used to seeing me, and my moves around the house. I’m taking a gap year to earn enough to fund the cost of auditions, accommodation in London can be very expensive, and so this is a great way for me to make sure I can afford to be in the running.’
